Janet Newsome Senior Manager, Women Veterans Leadership Program The Mission Continues Janet Newsome was commissioned as an Ensign through the Hampton Roads Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) in 2005. She spent 10 years on active duty as a surface warfare officer and human resources officer, serving a tour in Norfolk, VA as a division officer and then deploying to the Middle East in 2007 in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. She also served in Richmond, VA and Arlington, VA in support of the Navy’s Manpower Personnel Training and Education branch. Following her transition from active duty, she started and built a business as a health and wellness coach and completed a Fellowship with The Mission Continues. Janet previously served as the Senior Specialist, Applicant Experience for the Mission Continues, a national nonprofit that empowers veterans to continue their service here at home. In March 2020, she began the next phase of her career by serving as Advisor for her organization’s Women Veterans Leadership Program and in September 2022 was promoted to be the program’s Senior Manager. She and her husband, Keen, live in Washington, DC, with their four children.
